Picked up our 2 dozen herring from Lake World and on the water by 0930. Started fishing the mouth of a large creek at lower end of lake. Water was clear and temps ran from 53 to 54.
I don’t think I have ever seen such a large concentration of stripers over such a large area of water. Talking about water depths of 30-70 feet with most fish showing up in the 25-40 foot range. They were hitting everything, planers, downrods, and floats, sometimes blowing straight up out of the water to get the bait. Even caught one on a “handline” as I was pulling in a planer to check its bait and was just pulling in the leader by hand when the strike occurred.
Lost count of what we caught. There were a few shorts, but most were very nice looking fat fish. Largest was a 26 incher, and we had a couple of 25’s and 24’s. When we ran out of bait, we called it a day. Looks like the fish did too about 1130 when they scattered and things started slowing down from what it was.
Usually we like to “savor” our catch, but these guys were not playing fair. It was almost overwhelming for the two of us and impossible to get all rods (6) in the water at the same time early on. But we dealt with it, and I’m not complaining.
Glad I bought a pair of jumper cables to throw into the boat. Needed them on the return trip.
Nice Report … Too bad our boat is in the shop …

It was a nice day on the water, Jorge. Too bad we didn’t stumble into that sort of action last Saturday. Too bad it doesn’t happen every time.
Good to hear from you, Tim. I start worrying when I don’t hear from folks for a while. Have you even been on the water lately? And, Rick, I hope it’s just basic maintenance rather than aftermath of floating logs as mentioned on an earlier report.
No, it’s my fault … My 17 year old wanted to use my truck last weekend and rather than make her wait I used gas cans to get gas for the boat instead of getting it all hooked up and ready to go … Guess one of the cans had trash in it and it got into my fuel system … Trash 40+ gallons of gas and at least a couple of filters (there are three) and possibly (hopefully not) my fuel injectors … I could do it all myself, but between my schedule and waiting for parts to come in it would take me longer to get the boat back on the water, than if I just ponied up the cost of labor … I guess the adage “no good deed goes unpunished” comes to mind …
Sounds like some hot action. Good Job! My day today was less than stellar. I have not fished in two weeks and should have known that I may need to change things up but instead went to the same areas. I will give it a go in the morning and report what I find.

I’m still kickin, just haven’t been fishing. I usually fish the coast some in the winter, but could never seem to sync up my schedule with some good weather this year. I’m doing some home remodeling now that’s taking up a lot of my time, so I was really glad to see such a good report from the lower lake. Hoping to start getting in a short trip here and there.
