Its time to replace the brakes on my dual axel trailer. Does anyone know of a place that is reasonably priced? I know it wont be cheap just hate to get raked over the coals to bad.
Thanks

Maybe the guys at Charleston Trailer…not 100% sure tho! What sort of brakes are they? Drum or disc? Seems like it wouldn’t be any more difficult than brakes on a vehicle, but then again I have never changed trailer brakes, maybe they are more involved.

I think the only thing more involved would be dealing with the corrosion.
I’ll Second Charleston Trailer. I’ve never had service done there, but they’re the best price I’ve found on parts. I used them to get all the parts when I rebuild my trailer last summer.

They are disc. Not to complacted just at this point in my life I do not want sit under a trailer and fight 4 years of corrision. At some point a few hundred $$$ isnt worth the trouble. Besides by pricing the parts alone the labor doesnt seem that much more on top of the parts.

i would source the parts online just for reference. i am redoing brakes and hubs on a triple axle here soon. kodiak full SS brakes and posilube galvanized hubs all around. will save over $1000 in parts going online.
overrated they may be, but to be in accordance with the law in most states, including SC, any trailer over 3001 gross lbs must have brakes on each wheel. Trailers under 3001 gross lbs do not need brakes so long as the total weight on and including the wheels of the trailers does not exceed 40% of the gross weight of the towing vehicle when connected to the trailer. if you ever tag anyone while towing trailer, you bet the insurance company will look at the brakes, and if your pockets are deep enough you can be sued for negligence.
even though they may not care too much here, FL state troopers are much less lenient.
Brakes on boat trailers are overrated… Been pullin all kinda boats for 25 plus years, slow down and save your money…
Don’t forget to say “And make sure you have a heavy truck with good brakes!”
I’ve pulled some heavy trailers without brakes and as I get older I do go slower, I’d like to think I’ve gotten smarter too. With the change in how much more traffic we have and the increase in idiots pulling out in front of you…I believe oop_lost is taking the high road by replacing his brakes.
Trailer brakes arent overrated. I had a lady pull out infront of me and i can tell you if it werent for trailer brakes i think there would have been no way my dodge 1500 quad cab would have stopped everything by itself. Infact the boat shifted and it cracked one of the bunk supports.

What is it with people…they see you pulling a boat and the think they have to pull out in front of you, no matter how close you are to them.
