Jabez 2009 fishing summary

2009 was a great year for the Jabez. We want to thank everyone that came and fished with us in Charleston, NC, VA, and the Bahamas. We started our fishing season off with a month long trip to Harbour Island in the Bahamas. What great fishing we had. The 4-10 mile ride from the marina to the fishing grounds will really spoil you. We had great fishing. The yellowfin tuna, dolphin, and wahoo were there in force. We caught a tuna that was 100lbs! We also caught a blue marlin and missed a few other billfish. Sad to leave the Bahamas but charter season off of Charleston was calling. The charter fishing off of Charleston this year was average to a little bit above average. The yellowfin tunas didnt make a showing this year, but the blackfin biite was great. The dolphin were here in numbers and biting great. There were several days that we caught all we wanted and went to look for some other fish. The late summer sailfish bite was really good as well. The sailfish had the bait balled up and we were able to see them feeding on the surface. We had many days with a couple two , three, four, sailfish and our best day was 11. We didnt get to swordfish very much this year but we were able to catch one out of two tries. I will never get tired of eating swordfish. The meat is fantastic! As August rolled around we packed up our things and headed north. We had a slick calm ocean and a great run up to Va Beach. We ran from here to Morehead City NC then got fuel and came back out into the ocean to run up the coast til dark and drift for swordfish that night. No luck on the swordfish but we caught some sharks and missed a very large mystery fish that was most likely a sword. The following morning we had made it up to The Point, a spot where the boats fishing out of Oregon Inlet catch a bunch of tunas. The bite wasnt great but we were able to catch a few. then trolled north towards VA. We caught 2 white marlin then called it a day and ran the last 100 miles to Rudee Inlet. It turns out that those two white marlin were just a taste of

Glad you had a good year. Cousin Steve got the 41 whites didnt believe when I was relayed the info. Also, caught a blue to. Thats like dolphin fishing!
