Havent been posting much, or any really but I did get a new camera. Thought I would share some of the photos with you all. Fishing has been a bit slow lately but if you can find some bait you can usually get some bites from mahi or sailfish. I have found most of my bait marks in the 250-350 foot range up and down the line really from the 150’2 to the 550’s. Ahh well here are the photos.
That sailfish has a small sail and a long bill… there is also a lot of daylight in that pic… I’ll have to ask my buddy Kent T about that one… nice pics…
PHOTOSHOP!!! Just kidding there Benito. I didn’t realize your swordie was in the daylight hours. People want to hear the whole story so if you have some time, please feel free to enlighten us.
The dolphin had inhailed the bait. I think you can see it if you look close but it was one of those that you had to "go Deep " to retreive. Got lucky on the photo he jumped right at the back of the boat towards us. I also use a Digital SLR so that there is not a delay from when you hit the poicture buttin til it takes which makes a huge difference. The swordfish didnt start as a daytime fish but he sure ended up that way. We hooked the just before 5am on a spinning rod with 30 lb line and 60lb leader. Hea was also on a 8/0 eagle claw circle hook colored black. The rig itself was really quite spectacular in the fact that it held together for 4.5 hours. We had about 5 feet of 60lb, a swivel, 3 oz egg sinker, and the main line (30lb) was tied directly to the swivel. Any ways we had that line out about 35-45 feet out the boat for a dolphin or something. Wasnt much going on for us that evening and just before this fish bit a school of about 5 flying fished were maing there way into the light. I had been a flying fish sniper thoughout the night with my one shot one kill technique working out well but now was my chance to go mainstream and wipe out a whole flying fish village. So i was waiting for them to get in range when I saw one of our light sticks coming up from below. Shortly sfter that a swordfish almost ran into the side of the boat, and it was on from there. Almost 10 am before landed the fish, which measured out at almost 50 inches and was very tasty. Cant wait to go again.
Ben
