Jack Crevalle in the Wando?

Today my dad and I were in the upper Wando (almost to the 41 bridge) and we were watching schools of Jacks and lady fish busting mullet. So we drifted into them and my dad hooked into one that was 18in long. There were quite a few schools out there and I was wondering if anyone else has seen them like that. Is it just this time of year or what?

Wishin I was fishin.

That’s pretty cool. I’ve never seen them up that way.

It’s that time of year, but the 41 is pretty far up. I found them in Town Creek for the past 2 years.

I was looking at the bridge when we were on them. But once the pleasure boaters got out and that was the end. How big do yall catch them down here?

I caught a Jack Crevalle small one near the old train trestle by Drum island a couple weeks ago .

got one about 18" in a creek near bushy park landing today… took a double take thinking blue, then pompano, but definetely a jack! Nice fight.

I saw the same thing on Sunday. Right near the bridge.

can anyone suggest anywhere these might be accessible from shore/pier? no access to a boat but id love to get into some jacks.

Nothing better IMO as far as fight and how agressive they are, I used to love catching these guys on light tackle in the canals around miami beach/north miami.

I was fishing off the rocks behind Ft. Moultrie this weekend and saw that something was busting bait not too far from the shore. I cast a mud minnow out there and ended up with a 15" jack. Great fight for its size! I am not sure if that’s common practice for them to run along the beach at low tide, but it was there yesterday.

ascott, i have caught them that size in the surf on folly during the summer- gotta have a casting plug or spoon rigged before they bust, those blitzes can come and go quickly.

i know that large ones (20+lbs) are caught in the harbor in the spring, and i see juvies in the cast net starting mid-summer.
