Jack plate ??

Think a jack plate will help Me move in and out of my creek better.Anyone have one and is it worth the bucks??

Hydraulic jack plate will. Manual jack plate won’t help much.

I run a porta bracket on my boat and it changes the way a boat runs for sure. I have 17" of set back and 12’ of travel, so a lot more than a jack plate you would be looking at. You might only need 6’ of travel and as little set back as possible. That would get your skeg almost flush with the hull when you were trying to putter through shallow stuff. It also allows you to trim up while running getting better MPG and speed. That wont offset the cost by any stretch but its fun to play with. You also have to be aware of the motor height when turning and trying to get on a plane.

I had a seastar plate with level sensor on my last boat. It was great for running through shallow water. If you run really shallow and want to pick up speed you should get the water pressure gauge too.

I put an Atlas MicroJacker on the Bentz-craft rebuild. I, admittedly, don’t have much experience with it yet, but it has already gotten me out of a jam. Was entering a creek I was not familiar with, at low tide, and had to turn around. The ability to raise the plate all the way up and keep the prop LEVEL in the water versus trimmed up helped immensely. You actually can get some forward or reverse momentum developed, versus just throwing water in the air trimmed up.

I can’t wait to find out all of the uses for it.

it makes a difference , had one on the last few boats i have had, always will be on any new ones

Kinda like Salt said, I have one on my boat and will not own another without it. Self installed hydraulic a grand, no regrets.

had one on my last boat, and it didn’t really make a difference in performance, but it was sure nice to run the plate all the way up, tabs all the way down, and plane off in the amount of water the boat could float in (12"s)
