Jack Trick

3 Jacks today fishing for reds, 1 on trout trick, one on live shrimp and one one finger mullet. Haven’t caught Jacks in years. Also got 2 keeper trout and a bluefish. Don’t do much inshore but that was fun.

Friend from Florida said this was a pompano. I thought it was a Jack Crevelle but I don’t know hat I have ever seen a pompano. Can someone ID?

Not a pompano. Juvi jack

Yeah, looks like a jack to me. Sounds like fun! What area where you fishing? I’ve heard some talk about jacks this year, but have yet to see any.

South Edisto. Oyster rakes near the sound.

Definitely a jack.

The spot behind the gills and the spot by the pec fins differentiates between a jack and a pompano.

Thats great. I remember hearing stories as a kid about the big jacks my dad used to catch at the jetties and in the harbor. Does this mean they have made or are making a return? I want to target them if they are here. If remember right, he used to watch for them to bust bait and then throw big rattle traps for them. Did you see them busting?

Would love to target them on the fly
