James Island County Park

I plan to camp at James Island County Park during the first week of November. I know there’s a small fishing pier on a tidal creek that feeds into the Stono River. Has anyone fished from this pier or in this tidal creek and if so, can you give me any advice? Does anyone know the name of the tidal creek? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Great bait and crabbing creek with some decent fishing sometimes. Crabbing is that docks specialty.

Thanks 40inchreds. We’re planning on bringing our crab traps but we’d also like to catch some reds, trout, flounder and sheeps. I hope it’s possible in that creek.

Been there before and it’s almost nothing but crabbing and throwing for mullet &shrimp. I would recommend fishing in other places.

Thanks DHill72

Never fished there, but just looked at it on the Google. I’d say there is some potential to catch a few fish there based on my experience. I’d fish the very first hour or so of incoming tide for reds, night or day with fresh bait on the bottom. Looks like you might be able to cast to a marsh drain creek from the floater there towards the Stono, so try that particular spot on early incoming or the middle stages of falling tide. I’d try to round up a few fiddlers on the bank as you walk out to the dock and fish straight down beside the pilings around the dock for sheeps on just about any tide, but just before high and low tides might be best. Mid to high tide I would use a cork and float a shrimp or live mullet or any small bait fish for that matter for Trout. If you have a few rods, try fishing multiple baits until you find out what they are chewing on that day then go with that. Also try to place your bait in the deepest part of the creek, in my experience, that is where the fish swim when returning to the flats after low tide. Hope this helps. Let us know if you have any luck.

ive caught good trout from that dock a few times ive stayed there. i usually drag the canoe down that dock and fish that creek, but some times get lazy and just fish from the dock and have had decent success.

Thanks for the advice Downbytheriver,I’ll surely try these great tips you’ve given me. Also thanks TheMechanic, I have a better feeling about fishing here now that someone has actually caught fish here.

The responses to a New Member is what makes this a great Message Board.

The possibility of catching a fish…that’s why you go. Catching is just the “other” reward.

Nice place to camp. My first CFC oyster roast was there.
Bonzo say I gots to put my trailer there, instead of his driveway…HOA thing he says.

Nice peeps here.

With the exception of a lot of small Whiting, didn’t have any luck with Reds, Trout, Sheeps or Flounder; however, the crabbing was very good. Loved the park but going to try a different spot in 2020. Just found out about Buck Hall Recreation Area, anyone ever fished there? Any recommendations or advice appreciated.
