james island creek

I’m new to the fly fishing game and just found out that james island creek is accesible from my fiance’s house. I’m planning on taking a kayak and fly rod out and exploring a bit, but I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with this area. I’m not expecting GPS coordinates or details or anything, but should I spend more time around the smaller tidal creeks that are fed by the JI creek, or paddle longer and head for the flats closer to the bigger waters?

On a related note, how long do well made flies typically last? I’m sure I’m going to bash the hell out of them until I become a better caster, but I’m wondering what I should be expecting for a fly’s lifetime. I appreciate the help

On the related note. I usually get about 4-5 trip out of one. Usually the weedguard works loose. More times than none, it is not the fly wearing out as i loose it.
