James Island/ Stono River

Been hitting up the stono from ellis cut to Abbapoola with no luck what-so-ever. Mostly using jerk baits and some of those zmann soft baits. Have not seen a single school of reds. Caught a few small trout on the johns island side of the stono around older docks. I have been fishing this area for about 2 years now with out ever really having a super productive day. Any pointers for this side of the world?

Cold weather reds are in the flats! But, if you don’t get out there and do like you are, tryin… it only gits werse! Maybe slow trolling some paddle tail jigs for trout up against the shoreline???

If you can’t find the reds schooling in the flats try all the docks before and after the high tide from the shoreline to the end. My experience in the stono is most of the time I found them at shoreline. Use your trolling motor and cast at and under each section as they might be in one small area. Keep moving till you find them.

If that’s all I have to worry about…there’s nothing to worry about.

Thanks guys…looking forward to getting some pics up here soon

Redsneck is right. The closer to the shore the better. Just remember slow down.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

I would not target that area this time of year. There are not many solid flats to hold fish and areas where the reds can escape the dolphins. Try the flats on the inside of the river bends and the shallow areas around the docks. Reds are schooled up and if you’re not on the school, you’re not catching fish. Stay on the move and cover lots of shallow water until you find the schools.

Thanks guys! I have not ran into schooling reds yet in the stono… The hunt is on

solid

I fished ocean side of stono monday, hit every dock in sight and found two docks in a feeder creek that had bass. They were both on a bend were the creek was shallow then under the docks on the bends it was 5-6ft at dead low. Fish bit hard last hour of outgoing then cut off at slack tide. had to take off after that. Mud minnows

Get out There!
