JAX Tournament

Fished the JAX kayak tournameent this weekend and had a great time. They had over $80,000 in prizes and raffles. Beleive they said the first place prizes had a value of over $20,000. There had at least 6 kayaks to away with a Hobie Pro Angler as the Grand Prize. They even gave away sevearl kayaks in the Captains meeting raffle along with countless other prizes.

Would recomend this tournamest next year to anyone that can get away.

How did South Carolina do? I hope we didn’t embarass ourselves[:I]

Do we need to get Troy to write your fishing report???

I placed 8th in the largest flouder category… and in the top 15 for the largest red…

This is the largest Kayak tourney in the world… 430 boats entered…It was a good time for sure

If I could have just stuck a hook in one of the 20+ trout I missed I would have been in the money for the aggrigate slam… but alas it was not meant to be… there is always next year I guess…

100’ Away… ready to strike!!!

Good Job Mad Mike. Fished the Oak Harbor area and headed out to Chicapit on the east side of the ICW. Largest thing I caught was a 20in Jack. Only saw a few other anglers around which was not a good sign. Most of the group around in the area was skunked. I spent the day using Top water plugs and gulp, think the bait of choice for the day was shrimp or mudders. Should have pulled the cast net out and tried a bit of live bait.

my fish were caught on topwater, and gulp jerkshads… I fished all artificial.

the fishing was good, but it could have been better I guess.

Jordanonayak and I fished too far inland in the ****e Shell area. Made the mistake of trying to fish the shallow flats and rocks instead of hitting the creeks. We each caught a PR ladyfish. :face_with_head_bandage:

We chased reds all day, but couldn’t get a bite. Threw everything except Dynamite without a strike. Topwater, gulp, DOA, Live shrimp, Mudders, dead shrimp. Even threw 1/2 a blue crab in front of a school of reds and not a one touched it.

Great time on FL and we’ll be better prepared next year.

BTW, I hear the beer girl may have a 5000 dollar yard sale. For those not there, this chick won 3 raffle prizes Friday night and 8 more Saturday night.

Yeah I wasn’t too impressed with the fishing options in Jacksonville. Everyone who was from there promised that it was better most of the time but I think that it never can compare with here in Charleston. They do have local snook though and that is at least something. If I go next year I will have to do some pre-fishing and plan on fishing much closer to the ocean because inshore was not where it was at.

the fishing in JAX is fine… they have WAY more access than chucktown…

I pre fished for 2 days and caught plenty of fish everyday I was there…

and I used nothing but artificial… just sayin.

Now that’s the absolute truth. I couldn’t believe how may choices there were for launch points. Every spot on the road close to water was a potential put in.
