Jellies

Has anyone else noticed the absolute bumper-crop of jelly fish in the rivers this year? Not sure if they are moon-jellies or sea nettles. For early April, this seems crazy to me. I took some video on my phone and will have it on our IG page soon. @ralphphillipsinshore

tons of 'em, think they are the nettle/wasp type… certainly look like they can sting, haven’t tested it yet!

Lots of them out in the Copahee area in the creeks off the IC last Sunday.

Saw a few of those washed up on the beach on IOP the past couple weeks. My 9 yr old daughter, against my advice, picked one up. Complained of stinging and some rash for about 30 mins after touching it. Did not seem as severe as typical jelly sting, but she is pretty tough for her age.

Usually don’t see them bad till August, if I use Edisto as a reference. You can hardly go swimming in August down there. Today in the lower Cooper outgoing tide, they were EVERYWHERE. I’ve noticed them the last few trips too.

They were floating by nonstop at the jetties last Sunday.

saw some cannonballs behind folly, nothing too crazy though. It might be probably a combo of the slightly warmer than average weather with these huge tides flushing the jellies in and out.
