Jerkbait Trout & the Bassmaster Classic

As I’ve posted before, suspending jerkbaits are a top bait for wintertime trout. You cover a lot of water which steps up your chances of running into a school of fish, the pause is a reaction bite technique which will trigger inactive (cold) fish into striking, and the jerkbait is just down right fun to fish. Suspending Bomber Long A’s and Smithwick Rogues in Clown and Natural colors are my favorites. The suspending aspect of the lure keeps it from floating up when you pause it.
For an awesome tutorial on fishing a jerkbait, tune in to the Bassmaster Classic on ESPN 2. Day 2 airs tomorrow and the tournament was a jerkbait slugfest. 53 of the best anglers in the world fishing for $500,000 first place aren’t hiding a thing from the camera!

Bob I watched that this morning and did notice that all the top guys were using those suspending lures. I picked one up the other day and looking forward to trying it

Definitely my favorite plug! 2 jerks and a pause (somtimes up to 5 seconds) repeat…look up the Tim Horton Bomber Long A’s…
