Ocean Isle Beach, NC (WLTX) - Some McEntire Joint National Guard Base F-16s helped find two stranded boaters during a Coast Guard rescue off the North Carolina coast.

Around 1 p.m. Sunday, the Coast Guard got an alert from a radio beacon attached to a 25-foot pleasure craft boat that was homeported in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. The command center contacted Shaw Air Force Base, who in turn reached out to the 169th Fighter Wing at McEntire. Fighter jets from McEntire who were training near Ocean Isle Beach were able to locate the vessel.

The Coast Guard then sent their MH-60 rescue helicopter from Air Station Elizabeth City and a lifeboat crew. When they arrived, they found two people sitting on the hull of the capsized boat. The Coast Guard was able to put the two in a rescue basket and hoist the survivors up to the helicopter.

The boaters were said to be in good condition.

Glad they are safe.

Thanks go out to the fighter jet pilots and the Coast Guard.

You don’t have very long in the cold water out there right now.

Very cool to see my Swampfoxes helping out! I wonder if calling them to help was a necessity because of the reduction in the coast guard chopper fleet, or they just happened to be nearby and it made sense to utilize them while they were in the area.

It sounded like the boaters had a beacon device go off (epirb or something) and the McEntire guys boogied to the area and saw the capsized boat. It had to be a good feeling to see a F-16 buzz you so close you could see the pilots face and know that he saw you and that help had to be on the way. “Just hang on a little bit longer.”
