Jetties 10/17

Got out to the south side jetty yesterday around 2:30pm, wind was around 15kts out of the north. The day before, we fished the north side of the north/Sullivan’s from 4:30-6:30pm and caught a mess of blues and whiting, and one 38" bull. With the wind switch, we weren’t sure what to expect on the folly side. Bottom line, the jetties are on fire right now, all of em.

We caught around 30 fish total, 5+ different species. Two big Bulls pictured below, blues, whiting, a 16" weakfish, too many bsb’s to count, and what I think was a bonnethead that bit through the mono leader right next to the boat. Bulls were caught on cut bluefish. Unfortunately, both bulls swallowed the hook, we were able to get one out with minimal damage but had to cut the leader and release the other one before he was out of the water for more than a minute. There were two boats across the rocks from us braving the chop, and we saw them each land at least one bull. Nonstop action for everyone, excellent day! Even put my buddy on his first Charleston red.

Awesome day! I like to get out there but I have to choose my days in my skiff. One trick I use to get a gut hook out is by putting my pliers in behind the gill. If you come in through the gill, the pliers are parallel to the hook rather than at a high angle. 90% of the time you can just grab the hook and turn it out without hurting the fish.
