Jetties from state park

Not bringing the boat this weekend. Planning on going to the state park with some of the family. Would like to fish. What is best bet fish the surf or walk the jetty and fish the rocks. Because of the long walk I don’t want to lug a bunch of gear. Can take minnows in a bait bucket and some shrimp in the cooler.

S. Jettie is looking good…plenty of bait.

I’m tired of being told that I have to “spread the wealth” to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it. I think I’m going fishing…!!

Instead of hauling a bucket full of bait on that hike, take a cast net or a minnow trap and can of catfood. The south sandbar just inside of the main channel of Oaks Creek is holding plenty of bait right now. You should be able to catch your bait on site. Chances for all the inshore species.
My first saltwater trip as a kid, we’d stopped into Booty’s convenience store and he’d told my Dad that Spottail were biting at the Jetties. We’d never made the walk from Huntington Beach State Park to the “new jetties.” When we got down to the beach loaded down with food, drink, tackle and all the comforts of home, my Dad took one look and said, “let’s just fish here in the surf son.”
I said, “No Dad, Mr. Booty said they were biting at the Jetties!”
I caught a top of slot Spottail on my new Zebco 202 that day. I also learned how barnacle cuts feel.
Good luck.
