Jetties & IOP 12/19

Took advantage of the beautiful weather on Tuesday and went out with two other buddies. Tried a few spots in the Ashley on the last bit of incoming tide with no bites. A few spots around Drum Island also weren’t producing so we headed to the jetties about an hour after high tide.

Bottom fished with cut mullet and caught 10 black sea bass covering 5"-10". Also caught one small red. Artificials off of the rocks weren’t working well as the current really started picking up. When things quieted down there we headed towards IOP and fished some creeks off the ICW that had some structure. Just before low tide we got into them. Caught 10 trout all between 14"-16". 1/4 oz jig heads w/ Electric Chicken Glass Minnows and Fried Chicken TroutTricks. We were pulling one in every 2-3 casts. Great feeling for a guy who has almost been skunked the past few times I’ve been out. Once dead low tide came around we didn’t get another bite. Cruised around and tried the same spot about an hour after low, but the dolphins were in a feeding frenzy all around us.

Turned around and headed in on what was probably the glassiest conditions I’ve seen so far with a gorgeous sunset to boot. Crazy to have such great weather in December and felt great to put in a sun-up til sun-down trip.

Sounds like a great day. I love winter when it’s not cold and dreary.
