jetties lately?

Just picked up a new (for me) boat that I can finally be comfortable taking to the jetties on a calm day. Wondering if anyone has been out there lately and had any luck, or if water temps are still too cold for it to be worth it. Was thinking of going this coming weekend if winds permit.

Saw some guys fishing it while passing through the jetties last week, can’t comment on their success of course but I imagine they were trying for sheepshead. Can’t hurt to give it a try this week, we have pretty good weather, just watch the wind this weekend, it could make the jetties quite unpleasant

Yeah i was down this weekend past in charleston on vacation with the boat. Was going to try and make that ride to the jetties but when i got out in that harbor it turned into a ohhhhh noooo for me quick. Turned around quick and went back fishing in the rivers

I was out there Saturday before last. There was a fairly stiff NE breeze so we hung out behind the south jetty. We caught several spiny dog fish sharks. No sign of sea bass or sheepshead though.

It looks like the fish are back at the jetties. Caught several trout, reds, and sheepshead last week

Trout - calm water, slack current, popping cork, work the rocks. We used MM’s. We did ok the other morning at high tide until the water started to rip and it got to hard to fish. Just get a nice controlled drift going down the rocks and cast tight to the rocks. Grubs should work well too, but be prepared to pop some off.

I’ve lost touch with him, but I had a buddy years back who in the spring used to work the rocks with freshwater style crank baits and blister big trout, and he would get a lot of reds too.

I went Friday fished the South jetty for a while and released a 35" plus Red prematurely inches from the net. Caught several small Sea Bass and a very large whiting. We lost a couple other probably good fish in the rocks. Water temp was 60 degrees Friday there. We fished the outgoing and what a low, barely got back in to Shem Creek. The fish are there.
