Fairly simple question for those of you that fish the jetties a lot. Do you guys have more success at high tide or low tide out there? Inshore, I’m always programmed to think low tide in the creeks, but it seems people may have more success at the jetties at high tide. What do ya’ll say?
I’m thinking mostly carolina rigs at the base of the rocks. Looking for trout, drum, etc., not really bulls or sharks.
2 hours either side of low tide
I like fishing it at low when soaking baits on the bottom. I think I’ve had most of my action for sheeps and trout while the water is pushing through and over the rocks. I usually run 3 depths of leaders under a cork. 1, 3 , and almost 5ft… until one starts to out fish the other I fish them all. Vertical sheeps is a little different getting snuggled up and dropping down… still had my best luck with water coming through and over the rocks on incoming. I’m not sure there is a bad tide to fish that structure.

I like fishing the last two hours of flood tide. Slack tide is usually pretty slow. The first 2 hours of the ebb tide is hit or miss. I’ve never fished it on the low tide cycle. I like high tide because I can fish the wash-outs on the rocks for sheepies, and throw a few feelers off the back of the boat for trout and bigger fish (shark, reds, etc.). I rarely leave the jetties without a decent amount of fish to brag about.
Side note - shark are ravenous right now. They’ll eat just about anything you throw out there. Fun to catch, but I’m looking forward to them moving out and the reds moving in.
I’ve had better luck either side of low tide, but you can have success out there as long as the water is moving (ebb or flow). Just avoid slack tide.
…the water is calling, and I must go…
