Been following this forum for a while, first post. Wondering about fishing the jetties. I have been out quite a few times on either side, north/south, have not gone outside yet. Have had limited luck, and when I say luck, I am pretty sure thats what it was. Wondering about a couple things: 1)fish the incoming/outgoing side, or opposite side of the incoming/outgoing tide? 2)I see a lot of folks right up next to the rocks catching fish. I have only tried carolina rig on the bottom, mainly chasing bull reds. When up next to the rocks, is fishing carolina rig on the bottom the way to go, or something suspended? I wonder about snags when up close. Sort of figured out the creek reds, still struggle to target bulls at the jetties consistently. Any input will be appreciated, and I will pass along any tips/tricks as I figure them out.
I will first say I am no pro and have been fishing jetties for years with different people. Until recently I always fished up on the rocks sticking out of the water hunting for sheeps and reds, but have lost a lot of rigs. Now I have a really good sonar unit and drift around 15-50 yards off of the rocks. I can see structure and fish as i drift and drop lines straight down. I may not catching huge bulls yet, but I just started this and I’m catching consistently and not getting caught up in the rocks. plus, the rocks come out at an angle when they were put there quite far. it’s not like the rocks you can see are the only structure down there. Just my 0.02 and again I don’t consider myself a great inshore fisher, but man those sonar units are awesome! It’s like cheating. Good luck!

Just follow the charter guys around. They will show you all the good spots. Make sure you get as close as possible so you can mark their spot in your GPS.
They might even cast some bait over to you so you know how to properly rig them.

They have tow lines, or you have to bring your own? Maybe if I get close enough I can just use their GPS. Always anticipate people to be smart ellicks, until they prove you wrong!

This is exactly what ruins this site at times. He’s asking for help and this is the best you have to offer??

I have had better luck fishing the submerged submarine jetties for bull reds than the actual rocks. Carolina rig on the bottom with cut bait. Try to anchor right where the channel drops and both sides of the boat can be good. Downside is this time of year your going to get some sharks.
It’s easier to get setup up right before or after the tide changes before it starts ripping through there.
next time you may want to put questions like this in the Inshore Discussion forum, not the Inshore Reports forum. Some people get touchy about that

Pretty sure it was just some light-hearted sarcasm there ■■■■■■■■. Don’t get offended so easily and you’ll last a long time on this forum.

Behind fort sumpter cast to the rocks. also both jetties are great. throw a free shrimp on a popping cork or freelined with a split shot. I use to anchor from the stern then throw a brick with an old line in the rocks and get up on the sheep head…I use crap line and keep a sharp knife handy in case I need to cut myself free rapidly… I have been doing more doormat fishing since I got this Garmin 7612 and drifting big mullet on a 1 oz jig head also.
