Jetties to Stono Inlet or Breach Inlet

A couple of questions:

  1. I’m interested in cruising between the harbor and either Breach or Stono Inlet for the joy of it on a calm day. I have a capable boat, but have no interest in going miles offshore. Is there any particular reason this is a bad/dangerous idea? Anything about this more dangerous than just heading offshore into the deep? I have what’s needed for safety and years of boating experience, but not as a captain offshore. I’ve boated to and beyond the jetties to fish many many times. Have passed through the churning chaos between the jetties and Ft. Sumter enough times to know how hairy it can get there and that my boat’s plenty capable for that area.

  2. Is there any reason to fish from a boat off the beaches anywhere from Folly to Sullivan’s to IOP? Whether for sharks, reds, whiting, does that make sense or would it be pointless as long as you can fish the inlets for the same species?

Tons of sharks out in front of all of those, especially when you find a big bait ball, good to fish out there.

Coming in to breach inlet can be tricky for sure depending how its moved recently, in my opinion better to keep going north to an easier inlet.

Look at where Jesus went to pick people. He didn’t go to the colleges; he got guys off the fishing docks.

There’s an artificial reef within site of the Folly Pier. I wouldn’t guarantee a lot of keepers, but you’ll stay busy.

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.

Thanks so much, Fritz, for that chart. Kind of you and helpful!

Where would be a fun place to set up and toss some menhaden or blue crabs out? Any suggestions?
