Jetties update please

I have family coming in from out of state and they want to fish the jetties next week. Has anyone hand any luck yet this spring? They like shark fishing.

No sharks quite yet. If Mike Waller couldnt get into any on the Kiawah the other day, they aint here! There are alot better places to fish inshore this time of year. Fish for reds and trout around creek mouths and docks, and sheepshead on the bridges and old docks. I wouldnt and wont be fishing the jetties for a while

14’ Skiff-“Redfish Reaper”

The earliest I have caught a bonnet head or sharp nose at the jetties was april 21st and I was surprised to see it. He bit on a quarter piece of fresh crab. If you have real calm weather you could take them out to the nearshore reef just north of the second set of cage bouys. You can catch the spiny dogfish sharks out there at this time of year. You might get a sheeps head or black drum. You will surely have non-stop black sea bass catching but just watch the legal size of 13 inches.

Thanks for the advise. Does that reef have a name or number?

The actual name of the reef is Charleston nearshore. This site has the GPS numbers for it under resources>reefs at the top of the page. If you have a chart plotter you can enter in the coordinates. If you don’t have a GPS. The reef is about a mile north of the second set of cage bouys after you leave the jetties. There is a yellow DNR bouy that marks the reef.

Not to bust a thread, but I caught my first Sharpy on Sat. 3/22 in the surf. Nice one too. They are on the way.

Thanks guys! Going to try tomorrow. On vacation!!! I hope I can post a pic with fish in it!!!

Update. We went to the first reef and were on the sea bass. A few could have been kept but we released them all. We were stopped buy the DNR boat on the return trip. Good thing I put the flare kit in just before we left! Truthfully it was a good encounter they were doing their jobs. Thanks again for the help guys.
