Was wondering if anyone to the jetties lately.Wanted to know if the waves are big or is it calm out there right now.Ive heard sometimes its so call you can take a jon boat out there.Dont know how true that is though, lol.Wanted to bring boat down and do some fishing in my new boat(which is not a jon boat) at the jetties for the first time.Any suggestions on best tide or range to go out on.Whats size waves are to big to make it out ther on in a 16ft ebbtide.
small range, either side of low tide, there’s almost always at least one side of one jetty that’s protected from the wind and/or swell. problems come about when you’re on the inside and large boats throw big wakes, or when the wind/swell/tide oppose each other and jack things up.
that said, i’ve had my 14’ aluminum v-hull (almost a jon bote ) past the jetties before sunrise by myself, and have fished every side of the rocks. all about being able to confidently read forecasts, reports, the water itself, and your own comfort level. these things will come- i would not recommend running out there first thing and trying to stick a brick in the rocks.
BTW, there’s a lot of info from a month ago or so regarding the stuff i’ve already mentioned, as well as what can be caught, where, and how to safely position yourself there.
i’ll PM you next time i plan to go out there, and maybe you’ll be in the area to join up.

this should get you started!
Way to rough at the jetties for your boat, you should put in at the Folly Boat landing and fish the Kiawah River.

Use to have a 18ft Winner center console i took down a few times and fished the jetties but we sold it and i havnt been jetty fishing nomore.i brought my jon boat down and fished a few rivers last year.So want to get back to the swing of things of fishing down there on a boat.
quote:Fritz, don't lead him into the lions den! The Kiawah is almost always 6ft. swells, 30kt. winds and a rogue tribe of surviving Native Americans that are deadly accurate with tomahawks...gonefishing you'd be better off putting in at IOP and fishing that area, verrrryyy protected and lots of da fishes. Say hey to Fritz while you're up there!
