Jetties

Haven’t heard many reports from the jetties, just curious what the bite was like lately. Any keeper Black Sea Bass or Sheepshead? Thanks!

Went by the jetties this morning plenty of boats on them fishing but not sure how they were doing. We fished nearshore reef for about 2 hrs. Caught all you handle small black sea bass with a few 13" mixed in. All released. Also caught quite a few trout about 3-5 ft above the reef, also released. Hope this helps

Fished nearshore reef on saturday as well, didn’t catch anything. Saw a few others out there, some caught some sheepshead and another boat caught one or two (sheepshead or BSB, I couldn’t tell because they were too far away). I got skunked at the reef and the outside of the south jetty and caught a toadfish at grillage (at least I didn’t get skunked the whole trip). We had cut mullet and frozen finger mullet and fiddlers for bait

Went a couple of weeks ago and caught mainly whiting with a few small BSB.

Bacon…were you anchored over a piece of structure? I haven’t fished out there in a couple years but if you’re on structure you should’ve at least had lots of sea bass action…if you’re just anchoring near the bouy it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re on the ‘reef’…

Need to be directly on the reef. Also helps to drop a sabiki and use the actual bait fish that’s down there as your bait. but if you are right on the reef it’s hard not to catch something, nearshore is crawling with undersizes BSB’s.

What do the BSB like at the near shore? I am going to try if this weather clears out. Can you drift over it? I dont want to loose my anchor…

Most cut bait should work for BSB. Use a reef anchor or drift. I’m wondering if any Sheepshead are ever caught at the Nearshore Reef??

So in general, what’s the best side of the buoy to be on? North…South…East…West…??

I remember the big barges being just north of the bouy. Start making small circles with the boat gradually widening until you see the structure on depth finder…look for 5-15’ of depth change…its very clear when you are on the structure. Once you locate structure, stay calm (its kinda exciting the first few times lol) and figure out where you are in relation to the bouy or other boats, then figure out wind direction. Once you got that determined, drive over the structure heading into the wind, once you pass the structure (based on depth finder), drop anchor and let some rope out and you should drift back and if all goes well you’ll be on the structure. It can be a blast with kids/beginners since the action should be non stop…floating a live bait behind the boat while bottom dropping can lead to some bigger fish as the water keeps warming. Hope that makes sense, typed it from my phone…any questions lemme know.

Surprised you didn’t at least catch some whiting. Interesting not many posts about the Jetties/Nearshore, yet every time you go there are boats everywhere.

We caught a black sea bass off of a fiddler, that was it.

Went yesterday ,plans to play with the SW panfish , whiting, sea bass etc. Stopped to get fiddlers and they were out so pick up some frozen shrimp, they other guys were getting squid. Well no luck with them finding squid, so they went To Publix and found the Secret Mix! ‘’ Seafood Medley ‘’ a frozen mix of shrimp, squid, octopus, scallops etc. .I laughed but it was Most productive !! 3 of us caught about 50 whiting, some BSB , trout , and 1 shark before the tide started rushing and we could not keep the baits on the bottom with light tackle. Who da thunk ??? I guess Sushi for panfish . Fun time overall.

Lots of action! I don’t think I have ever caught a trout on cut bait, nice report!

Took the ol camo boat out to the jetties today. Wasn’t too productive though, all we managed to get was a whiting. Once the winds picked up we headed back in. Still a good time though just being on the water.

I don’t mind going to work but this sitting here for 8 hours waiting to go fish is bull.
