Jetty Reds on Plastic

A little late but not too late. After I got my Sportsman bay boat last year I’ve been trying to learn the jetties a little better. A lack of time on the water has prevented learning too much but I’ve been lucky to have been given a few tips by friends. One thing that is very doable and tons of fun is to catch bull reds on plastic. All you really need to do is keep off the rocks a casting distance and pitch to the rocks and swim them down the slope. Another thing to try is simply vertical jigging while you drift with the current down near where the rocks meet the bottom.

When you get hit you will know it, a solid thump! Personally, I’ll take feeling the strike this way over 10 on bait. I was solo for this one so I was feeling stoked to land it.

I was fishing our RedfishEye jigs (3/8 and 1/2 oz) on the new Z-Man 5" Diezel MinnowZ. They match up perfectly.

Give it a try, it’s not too late - they are still there.

Great report!

Great fish!!!

Wow! I’ll have to pick some of those up. Are you guys planning on doing another seminar like you did in the Spring on the sidescan?

That’s awesome! Did you tag it or was it already tagged?

Short answer is Yes, but it will probably be a while. Working on new product development, plus the day job there is not a lot of room for planning. Maybe next spring or mid winter.

BTW, if anyone is interested, the seminar is available for viewing on YouTube. There are 4 parts (its over 1.5 hrs long) but full of useful information. Can’t thank Capt Ben Powers enough. Part 1 is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhTqboO3PtQ&t=15s

Also, I have 4 blog posts on eyestrikefishing.com where I talk about optimizing my Simrad sidescan as a follow up to what was learned at the seminar.

I tagged it. Waiting for a return, I’m guessing it wont be long till she’s recaptured.

Way to go Dave! I love those drag peelers too! Saturday would have been great out there… Sunday I could have been passed by a sailboat haha

Good stuff, as always, Dave!

Thanks for sharing!

Oh, and I’m with you. I’d take one good “thump” on an artificial over ten bait bites any day!

Awesome, I’ll bet that’s fun. Have to try that if I ever go fishing again.

Be honest, how many jigs did you lose bouncing it off the rocks?

If you aren’t losing jigs, you’re not fishing where the fish are
Luckily, I know someone in the business…

Thanks for the report David, I’ve always fished the jetties with bait but have been wondering about trying the Trout Eyes there. You boosted my interest/confidence. I’m gonna try it.

I would recommend buying a surplus of jigs! I have a feeling I’d lose one every other cast trying it!

Fantastic, glad you have found the secret to catching red on the arts
