Jig Heads???

I read on here quite a bit about guys using 1/4 oz or other weight jig heads to fish for reds, etc… Not to be an idiot (yeah, I know, too late) but are they referring to the type of jig heads that you would use with rubber worms, grubs, D.O.A.'s etc…? And, do you just use the jig head itself with no other tackle? Still learning and trying to soak it all in so thanks for any input.

What’s up DF?

Lots of choices/sizes/colors/weights/types out there…I mean LOTS.

But, many use a typical jig head w/ a soft bait alone, then some add a piece of shrimp or MM etc…, and some even thread on a shrimp tail w/out any other soft bait attached.

Smaller jig heads seem to do a little beter w/ the trout.

Some folks also use jigs under a float to control depth, and to avoid getting snagged on oysters so much.

I’m sure others have additional ideas on this subject…

I use a 1/4oz jig head with cut mullet or any other bait for that matter and it catches fish. No need for additional weight unless the tide is strong.

A fat mud minnow on a 1/4 - 3/8 jighead is a very effective presentation to slowly drag along the bottom.

Depending where I am fishing I use different size jig heads, but the color really doesn’t seem to matter that much. I would stick to red or white though. I use DOA jig heads. The weight I will use is 1/4 oz. jig heads and I also will use 1/8 oz. if the water is shallow, but mainly use 1/4 oz. I like to buy 1/4 oz. in red and 1/8 oz. in white so it is easy to tell what I am using. It makes since to me.

Thanks for the info guys. My wife said I can’t buy anymore fishing gear until I start catching something with the stuff I have so don’t tell her about my new jigs.
