Jigging Bait for Kings

I really don’t king fish or bottom fish at all, so I rarely mess around with jigging up bait. That being said, I am thinking about doing the Miracles tournament in a few weeks.

First of all, what are your preferences for live bait? Most seem to use menhaden, but probably because they are the easiest to find. I plan on trying to find some bigger mullet if possible.

What about jigging bait? What type of bait do you try to jig up, and roughly where? Is it best to look around the buoys, do it at a reef, or just jig with a sabiki while slow trolling? Is it worth it or are menhaden the way to go?

Any info would be great.

Thanks

Kings aren’t really picky on what they eat as long as it’s shiney. They like Spots,Whiting,Ribbon fish, Blues(trim their tales they will out swim a King) and of course Menhaden. You can also pull spoons and ballyhoo with a sea witch. You cover more ground with the spoons and hoos but usually the fish you catch are smaller.
