Jigging the Nearshore Reef

Has anyone tried jigging the Nearshore reef during the warmer months? I’ve been toying with the idea lately.

Black sea bass is all you will catch.

Caught several bsb’s that were smaller than a great big ole jig late this summer. Less than 20 miles out.

Ladyfish won’t be here in 55 degree water.

My bad. I didn’t see where you said when it got warmer. Depending on how warm you are talking about, you will catch weakfish, bluefish, ladyfish, large redfish, flounder, sea bass, spanish mackeral, sometimes trout. Bluefish and weakfish will get thick in late March and April.

big yellow jigs (butterfly) will get you a cobia if he is there

Have caught AJ’s and Kings early in the morning on jigs around the schools of cigar minnows when they are on top. In summer

If there was an anti-black sea bass lure, I’d use it all day out there!

I’ll have to give jigging a try out there though. Thanks for the info.

That’s classic. Let me know if you find one please!
