Did pretty good last night, though it was cut short. The area between Sunrise and the DNR was like a little city, jam packed full of boats. I was on the dock at Sunrise, but you could hear the folks in the boats yelling about their catches. I got several that were longer than a can and about 1/4 of a medium size cooler after an hour. Then, the cops came. They were nice, but explained that there had been some issues in the park recently, so they have started patrolling it more. Crazy I grew up going there before it was a park and have been shrimping there for around 5 years now, so I guess I should be happy. I’m just disappointed that a small few have to ruin it for the rest of us folks, just looking to catch some dinner. Makes me bitter about all the people moving down here even more.
Went back out the next day in the am. Was there for 1 1/2hrs, got 2 tiny shrimp that I threw back. Hadn’t tried it there in the morning before, but after that, I don’t think I will again.

haha…go to one of the houses right before sunrise park on water…tell them you will help with some yard work in excahnge for using their dock a night or so a week for a couple hours. a friend at work said he did this where he lives once and had neighbors offering theirs up to as long as he kept it low key and showed respect to property. might work house right next to it is a older couple who might like a hand in the yard

Funny you say that, I noticed some younger folks in fancy cars measuring out some stakes in the yard. Not sure what was going on though. It sucks though, I grew up going to that “beach” long before anybody really knew about it. Frustrating to get thrown out for shrimping/fishing and not bothering anybody. The law is the law though, so I understand it from the Police’s standpoint.
I just wish the city would devise a plan, where folks like us could buy a permit to fish/crab/shrimp in a city park after hours. If you have a card and break the rules of the park, you’re subject to get your card revoked and fined, as well as jail time depending on the severity of the infraction. Then, I would be happy.
