You sound like the perfect candidate to be a dockhand at a marina. You would get to be around boats/the water, learn a ton about boats in general and meet people in the industry. It sure beats the hell out of a retail position at a tackle shop for a first job.

There are a number of boat clubs in the area which all have dock hands as well. Carefree is one of them
