Hit the flats at high tide this afternoon, paddled out from the Kiawah River bridge. REDS EVERYWHERE!!! However, they weren’t interested in anything that I was throwing at them. Dupre’s, Clousers, Copperheads, deceiver’s, shrimp patterns, nothin’! I chased one fish for about 30 minutes, casted 3 different flies at hime, no action. Dropped a fly about 4-5 feet in front of him at least ten times. He just swam by. I had just switched out flies, and was looking around for him, and I glanced down at my feet, and he was there, no more than 18 inches from my feet. He was a big 'un, at least 36 inches. I barely moved my hand, and he spooked, oh well. I did catch a couple of tailing sheeps on the fly rod on my way out, they’re always a blast. No reds caught, but another great fishing day!
Anything with a Zonker Strip, sometimes they are enticing, that’s what I had them eat the other day. Where I used to tie a Marabou clump, I have replaced with a Zonker Strip, although I have found out it doesn’t hold up as well
Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

Everybody has days like that but that’s part of the experience. What fly did you use for the sheepshead? I’ve heard they’re very picky.
Pez, they both went after a Dupre’s spoon fly. The second fish was about 3 feet in front of me when he swallowed it. I let him hang on to it for about 5 seconds, gave it a little twitch, he took off,and I set the hook. He put up a helluva fight for a little guy, he was about 12-14 inches. Lots of fun, hope I see some sheeps again on the flats.
