johnson outboard lower unit removal

I’ve been trying to remove the lower unit on a 1998 johnson 150 ocean pro,I removed all the nouts and it still won’t come loose does anyone know whatI am doing wrong.

I’m no expert but you may have missed a bolt or nut. I have seen this happen before…Dont hit anything with a hammer!!

Freshwater is for drinking.

Northstar, Did you remove the torque stabilizer tab located above the prop? Look closely because there may be a bolt inside and/or above that tab that is keeping it from dropping.

Not sure how yours is set up, but check underneath the carbs/intake assy for the shift-shaft coming up through the main housing and see if it needs to be disconnected.

loosewire and salthunter are correct

I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com

Watch how that shift linkage under the carbs comes apart. If yours is put together the same way my '95 88spl is, getting that linkage apart is easy. Getting it back together is a pain. The connection is tucked down under the power head so far that it is a blind chore getting it back together. You can do it. It just takes a little persistence.

northstar,

I went through the same thing when I first tried to drop the lower unit on my motor. Here’s a great link on how to remove the lower unit on a V4 or V6 Johnson/Evinrude and replace the waterpump. The first photo is of the little screw/nut that has to be removed. This will release the shift shaft/rod.
