johnsuki 140 starting issues

04 motor with less than 800hrs (no hr meter) service has been done annually. Sometimes the engine will fire off immediately and sometimes the starter will run for two or three seconds. The problem isn’t consistent and doesn’t seem to be the result of temperature. I have checked the battery and replaced fuel filter. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

check the main wiring harness, port side of motor, down in the pan.
sometimes that motor will get a pin hole in the adapter plate and let hot exhaust gas “breathe” on the harness, causing a melt.
