jon boat modification

I thought of some of the mods I did to my jon boat when I had it and I thought I would share The one mod that made the most difference and offered the most versitility were threaded rivets. I worked at a municipality and the shop had a large rivet gun that installed large galvanized threaded rivets, mine held 1/4" bolts and all you have to do is drill the correct size hole to install the rivet in and it made quick detachable modifications to your jon boat. I used it for a foot controlled trolling motor bracket that I could remove easily. You could use this method for so many things on a jon boat I thought it was worth mentioning so you could look into it for yourselves and Make your modifications clean and quick detachable and non permanant.

I don’t know the proper teminology, but we called them riv-nuts. We used them to “blind fasten” hardtops on boats. I’ve also used them for fastening the rear tab on motorcycle seats to the rear fender.

I am doing this to the floor of my aluminum v bottom boat, I found them at Fastenal. The size I have cost $.59 a piece.
I got the installer at Harbor Freight, it works pretty good for a HF Chinese tool.
