I have a split down the bottom side of my jon boat. It is about 3inches long and probably an inch toward the center of the boat from the gunnel. The bunks on the trailer were messed up and the boat ended up sitting on the wheel well while going down the road which bend the bottom a bit and split the bottom. It only seeps water, not a gaping hole by any means.
What is the best way to repair this? Who would you take it to?
I am in Charleston, SC.
have it welded with an overlayed patch

welding is the best way for sure. i used a marine ‘epoxy’ from west marine, its a grey stick and you break off a chunk and roll it around until its like putty. worked a hell of a lot better than bondo or jb weld, whcih i used. Whatever you do, make sure sand the affected area down to bare metal.

Chris and Yakman are both right, weld is better, but the stick putty can also work.
I personally would be tempted just to do a cheapo fix…to scuff sand it very clean with 80-grit sandpaper using an orbital sander, mix up some of the Devcon marine-grade putty (grey color), put down a layer, top with a layer of fiberglass cloth, with one more layer of Devcon over the top. Should bond quite well since this isn’t a gusher to begin with.

Haha, my jon has been patched with an aluminum license plate from the trailer, 8 rivets I found in my truck tool box from the previous owner, and life caulk.

5200 marine sealant and duct tape will work for a while.
If you want to drive to Lexington, I can weld on a patch for you.

Thanks guys, dropped it off at Oswalds yesterday. The boat already has a few holes patched with Belzona metal epoxy from where I cut out the middle seat on the gunnels. I was a Belzona Rep for a while and should have kept a few more of my samples, they have some great stuff but it is pricey.
I was tempted to patch the bottom with putty but I tend to bounce off stuff inshore fishing and especially hunting and I was worried about punching through the worn metal.
