I’ve got an old 10ft jon boat I bought from a guy about 5 years ago. The boats older, and i don’t have any paperwork on the boat. Do I have to register it if I’m only using a trolling motor, and if so how. Thanks. Also the boat has no decals or plates identifying the make.

got to have title. i got a warning for a sneak boat i built that had a trolling motor bc i didnt register it. Nuts right?
If there are NO NUMBERS WHAT-SO-EVER on the boat, I believe you can make your own VIN and affix it (i.e. pop-rivet) or you can engrave it on the boat.
Then, take pictures of the boat, the newly affixed VIN, and take the stuff to DNR. They will issue a title for the boat.
I may be missing the part where you have to run an ad in your local paper for 4 weeks, but…not too sure in this case.
Good luck.
Oh, and FWIW, I didn’t think you needed title/registration for anything that’s not powered by gasoline…

If you put any kind of mechanical power on it you have to register it. I was gonna set mine up with a paddle wheel off the back powered by pedals and chain with a couple of sprockets. Dnr guy said nope, gotta register it.
I agree with usmc i had to do that on a boat but it did have the vin number I had to run an ad four weeks and also send a certified letter to the last owners previous address!! Good luck, DNR will help you out down at the end of fort johnson!!!
