Jose Wejebe

Not exactly striped bass fishing related…but Jose Wejebe died last Friday in a plane crash. He was 54. Sad day for all of the saltwater fishing fans out there and for his family. He brought a lot of cool fishing places into our homes and shared a lot of knowledge.

Indeed… A great loss for our sport. I always enjoyed his programs no matter what he was catching, and he did several striper shows.

Jose was a very cool guy. I traded emails with him a couple of times about his shows and fishing off the coast of North Carolina. He did come up and do a show with Pete Manuel, Capt. of the Delta Dawn, catching Bluefin Tuna off of Cape Lookout.

I remember a show he did Tarpon Fishing where he jumped in with mask, fins and snorkel, to swim a fishing rod around a bridge piling so his angler could get the fish to the boat. I also know another guy that told me he dropped a fishing rod with a Penn International reel off a dock down in the Keys and Jose volunteered to jump in and get it for him…

I hope they will do a marathon Jose Wejebe/Spanish Fly weekend… I think I will send Flip Pallot of Walkers Cay Chronicles fame an email as I know he and Jose were great friends…

I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…

and Flip was very appreciative in his reply…
