Sunday was a super nice day to be offshore and the plan was to mix up some freediving and get some friends tank diving as well. At the first spot Gabe Turner jumped in to check the vis while i was helping 2 friends get the tanks on. 5 minutes later he comes swimming back to the boat with a mid 40’s lb cobia and a big smirk on his face. The current was ripping and the tank divers didn’t do so well. After 2 scary situations i told them the diving was over for them for the day. The anchor wouldn’t come up so Gabe put a tank on and went down to get the anchor and came up with a 15lb Gag as well.
We moved over to the next spot where we planned to spend more time. I shot a really big African Pompano right away and after a good fight, the spear somehow pulled. The Gabe got an AP and spear pulled again. We regrouped and the very next drop he nailed a nice AP. It pulled him all over the ocean and i had to swim down and got another shot on him to secure him. By that time we were 1/5 mile from the boat so we swam back with Gabes first AP and celebrated.

We hunted a lil more and then put tanks on for a quick survey of the bottom. Lot of nice fish everywhere. I nailed a nice scamp and then we called it a day. The vis has slowly gotten worse throughout the summer but the vis below the 20degree thermocline temp change was better than the upper part of the water column. Gabe was hands down the Most Valuable Killer on sunday and congrats to him on his new job as well!! It was a great weekend on the water for everyone that got to enjoy!
