July 31 charter

Took a great bunch of guys that are working on East Cooper Medical Center. Started the day at SW Bank, dead water there, had two knock downs in an hour, ran to the ledge to the OutCrop, hooked up 3 sails, released two. Fishing was rather slow all day, ended up with 2 kings, 2/4 on sails, 2 dolphin, 5 cudas, and ended the day with a real nice wahoo, but a shark bit in half. Thanks Whitney for setting this charter up.

nice day…but now how are the sharks getting to them i keep hearing about catching half a fish?

Sharks like to eat struggling or injured fish. A fish on the end of a line is an easy meal.

If you fish out there for any amount of time, you’ll feed a shark from time to time. I hate it when it they get a piece of a hoo or dolphin though!

At least this shark only got the skinny end, we still had a lot of meat left.

True. I just love it when they bite right behind the gills, and then don’t even say thank you…:wink:

Always stinks when that happens, but I guess your giving back a little as your taking, just wish I could pick what I am giving them back. I would feed them so many 'Cudas we would have a few new state records in the Sharks. Fish out there and they will come see your caught fish sooner or later.

wow now that sucks.

So, let me ask an odd question here. If DNR says you have to land the fish “head and tail” in tact, would you get in trouble for keeping half a fish like that if you were stopped by the man? We’ve kept them before like that too, I was just wondering out loud a little… Anyone have insight into this?

It seems like a dumb question but I too have often wondered that. Who is to say you didnt cut it in half just so you could keep the better portion of a slightly undersized fish.
The DNR officers here in NC have been very nice to me in the past few weeks. I don’t own a boat but i go out crabbing with other folks and I got a call last week from a officer about my pots not having a boat number on them. you can have up to 5 crab pots with a recreational/commercial license here in NC and put them anywhere in saltwater that it is legal. I explained to him that i don’t own a boat and use friends and familys boats. He just gave me a verbal warning and asked me to take a sharpie and write on the float the boat that i was currently on and then make some kind of permanent tag once I got back from vacation. He could have wrote me up but was really nice about the technicality. It gave me a new found respect for game wardens. I have had some BAD experiences with wardens in the past, especially when it comes to poachers deer hunting on my property.

Ohhh, my turn!
