Planned to head out in the early am with my wife and get some fishing in before she had to go to work. Plans don’t always turn out the way we would like! Rain kept us at home. Funny thing, when she left for work, the sun came out! So off I went for a short trip in the afternoon. Beautiful skies but lots of wind out on the Wadmallaw river. Caught the obligatory sting rays, a small bonnet head shark and the day-maker…34inch red. THe red took a good 5 minutes to land, it was giving me a run around, took me around the boat twice before I could get the net under him. Caught it on a large minnow on a carolina rig next the grass on the outgoing tide.
Beautiful way to celebrate the birth of our country! Now if I would only gave caught a whiting and a blue fish I would have hit the patriotic slam!!
