July 7th Offshore

We decided to head out to the South West Banks to see if we could get something to bite a hook. After an hour and a half of trolling, the Yuri Bonita got hit, the 6/0 bent double and the dragg peeled for about 3 seconds. No tooth marks on the plug. Another hour and an 8-10 pound dolphin hit the box. Lots of broken weeds but no good lines, just enough to keep lines fouled.

Finally we moved to some hard bottom in 165 feet and filled the box with nice pinks, knobheads, hogfish, red hinds, and vermillion. It made for a pretty good day.

Heading in we were greated by a nasty storm and pon pon reports from the coast guard of a vessel taking on water off the south jetties. Fortunately they received assistance before we got in. Always know your and your vessels limitations before venturing out into to deep blue seas, even if you have “tidal rails”.

Nice day. That’s not a true Hogfish FYI…looks like a Spanish Hogfish from what I can see and a big one at that! Always wondered how they taste!
