Are possibly these the same specie we are catching in our cast nets in the ICW? Just curiosity. I’ve caught a few that were just a few inches long.

I may stop by and get some tomorrow, haven’t done calamari in a while.

the ones you catch in the ICW are “hard heads”. a real tough squid, these are very tender

OK, I see. I tried once to take some home and put in my saltwater (native) aquarium. None of them survived the acclimation lol so they got chopped up for fish food. Shame, they are awesome little animals.

I plan on stopping by today :sunglasses:

I picked up some of these today and had them for lunch, quite good. Fairly tender for squid, definitely better than the frozen stuff.

Unfortunately I forgot to remove the hook before I ate it, but I was able to throw the hook on my third jump, before my wife got the gaff out.

For what it’s worth, I sauteed some at lunch, but for supper, I sliced them, breaded with seasoned flour/egg wash/panko crumbs, and spritzed them with corn oil… baked at 350 until crispy. Mercy! This was the best calamari I’ve ever had. It was almost as tender as shrimp.
