Jumping Flounder

Hit a spot by the house after work just before low. Carolina rig, FM, about 2ft. deep. Got this guy at 16 in. He came almost completely out of the water (white side at me) when I got him close to the shore. Never seen a jumping flounder. No other hits.

It’s a lot easier to convince my lady that I need to fish while she keeps the baby when I bring home fresh fish for the table

Stuff that flattie with some shrump and she’ll really be happy.

Good catch!

Umm, you gonna eat that?

Thousands have died to save my freedom. Only one has died to save my soul!

Nice fish

yes! add stone crab, scallions, & oldbay

Septembers shrimp is all gone jstrange. Pea Pod would love to stuff with stone crab but do to the time of year, I will probably stuff with tomato and basil and serve with grits or just pan roast it with scrambled eggs and grits (one of my personal favorites).

I have seen them jump before.

Had similar scenario play out over easter. Fishing on the bow in 2 ft of water straight up and down, mudder got hit. Let it sit for a bit, then hookset and he jumped clean out of the water…but shook the hook in the process. :face_with_head_bandage:

Its ok, got him, his brother and son within the next few minutes.

It ain’t no mystery…this beer’s history!

This also means to be careful to hold them down in the boat. I had one flip 6 ft straight up one time - - lucky he landed on the floor of the boat. Now I keep them in the net until dehooked and dumped into the cooler.

Had one leave the water while it was hitting a topwater bait in about 8" of water about a month back. Ended up being about 21". They all have to go back when I catch 'em though. Allergic to seafood. What kind of crap is that?

Got one (21in.) at the same spot last spring that got back to the water after off hook. I actually had to jump in front of fish, in the water, on hands and knees and luckily got my hand in front of him in the water. He was delicious.

I’m glad someone else had this experience. I caught a founder once that literally jumped out of the water like a largemouth bass–100% serious. It tripped me out because I would have never thought that flounder would (or even could) jump, and when I tell people about it, they think I’m pulling their leg.

I’ve seen them free jump on a couple of different occasions. Siriusly*

A long long slow walk in the spartina gives you time to think big thoughts and put your mind back into order.

Saw one tail walking after a FM the other day.

The final jump…
