Just doesn't get any better.

Fished structure all day on the Wando with arties until I finally found some loaded with reds. Infested is more the word. Caught 1 with every cast for over 4 hours. 50 plus reds and one 16" trout. Biggest 30", 8lbs with the average 22-23inches 4-6lbs. Hit everything I could think of to throw at them. They hit Gulp jerk crazy legs, saphire shine, white, pink, ghost and gulp regular shrimp, ribble mullet and zman paddle tails. Have never experience this type of feeding frenzy with the reds and the most I have ever caught. This old man has a sore arm and shoulder. Great to live in the low country and fish this time of the year.

Years ago the Stono River had large schools of reds.I have not seen a big school in years.Since the new Limehouse bridge went up and the fleet moves past wide open ICW fishing has slowed down.I could always plan on fishing the closed hours but now you get swamped all the time.Yesterday a 70 footer came past and just put out a 5 foot wake. Most of those boats have a Capt for a few days to deliver the Boat to Fla for them.Time is money!!! They haul ass drop off the boat and bring one back or fly home for another delivery.Knew a guy that made $100K a year doing that.Took a lot of chicks with him all the time.

Stonoman

Thats awaesome. I’ve had that happen once. Cast in a 10x10 square and it was money. Made me wish I could go under water and see what they were up to in a spot like that. If you even caught half (and it was probably a good bit less) there would be hundreds in that one spot. Amazing!

Awesome…just wish you were exaggerating. I went out on the Wando yesterday…3 spots not so much as a nibble. Frustrating…but I probably just don’t know what I’m doing

Stonoman, i know of the 70 footer you speak of. My friend and I were in the kayaks by limehouse yesterday. I am pretty sure that was you that cruised by since the boat said “stonoman” on the side. At any rate I am so happy we got out when we did. No sooner had we pulled our boats on the bank and out of harms way that boat came screaming through. There is no doubt in my mind that we would have been thrown from our boats had we been in the water. The wake was every bit of 5 feet for sure!

Smabell, you just have to keep moving. I fished yesterday from dawn to dusk and was basically skunked until finally locating them. A trolling motor helps. I usaually try a spot and if no bites in 10 minutes, I move on. If they are there and feeding you will know right away. I also learned to fish all around stucture that looks good. They seem to gang up in one small area. I must have fished at least 30 spots until wham!!

Great report! I have never had a day quite like that. I do have a couple of questions for you if you have the time to answer. I have a trolling motor that I use when fishing spots like copahee, hamlin, etc. but never around docks or other real structure. Do you just point it up current and hold it steady while you are casting or do something else? How do you work the artificials around docks? I have a few docks that produced some nice reds this summer but I was anchored and using live bait. I really want to focus on getting better this winter at artificials and any help would be appreciated. Take care

“two tears in a bucket!”

Congrats to you. I had a day like that - - never forget it, they were hitting Exudes in the ICW. If I ever need to make a bucket list, it’s nice to know it already has one check-off on it. GLTA, Merry Christmas!
