Just moved back from Beaufort

So we just moved back to the Charleston area from Beaufort, and we’re loving it. Still super busy unpacking and settling in, but I got to take the boat out for a little exploring last Sunday and really enjoyed being back on the water after about two months of nothing…

Anyways, I have some friends coming into town tonight, and tomorrow they wanted to go to the firefly distillery but other than that the day is fairly open. I thought if they wanted to go out on the boat I should have a few ideas of where to go, and was looking for suggestions. I’m talking about sand bars, beaches, hang out spots, not fishing.

Since we’ll be over on Wadmalaw, I figured we could just take the boat with us. There’s a sand bar off limehouse, and I was looking down by Rockville and saw this little island: http://goo.gl/maps/7fT70

That looks nice, but the satellite doesn’t tell all. Is anyone familiar with this area? What about that beach to the left (north end of edisto). Is any of this private? Coming from Beaufort there are a lot of spots that might look nice on google maps but they’re either private, military, or otherwise restricted access when you go in person.

Capers, Price’s or Dewee’s inlets are all good places to “beach it”. I used to go to Morris Island but it has gotten a little too rowdy and less family oriented.

That’s Deveaux bank. The bird people don’t want you there  If you go inside the inlet from “B” on your map, the beach near that creek mouth is Privateer point. Popular spot. Across the N.Edisto is Botany. You can’t use the dock but I think the beach is ok ,well it used to be .Both are good places to anchor up.You may want to avoid the area behind Deveaux due to potential surf . Put in at Cherry point and you’re at those spots in no time .

Ooops, sorry, should have read more closely, I would have seen you are further south than Charleston harbor. You can go to Deveaux Bank but, you are not allowed to go above the high tide line. I was there in July, it is pretty and quiet but there are probably better places overall to beach it. Tons of shells on the beach at Botany. There are some restrictions there as well but don’t remember exactly what.
