Left City Marina a bit later (around 530) hoping that the ocean was going to be calmer since reefcast, weather buoy, and NOAA called for a nicer ocean later in the morning and was greeted at the jetties by anything but calm. Made our way out along the 350 line in 3 hours to 150 feet.
Lots of activity in the water with bait and birds all around. Caught a bonita right off the bat and moved offshore to about 250 ft. Stayed right there all day and had pretty good action. Marked some bait in the water and started picking up dolphin. Had a terrible catch/hook up ratio, catching only 3 out of 8 hook ups. Had a billfish of some sort come up on the left short, but didn’t stick around too long. Had the left right long go off and this mystery fish took 3/4 of a TLD 25 spool in roughly 20 seconds and went dove straight to the bottom. Settled in for the fight only to have it cut off…seemed to be a wahoo bite. All in all a fun day with a terrible ride out. Can’t wait to go again.
Oh, and only one Cuda release for the day. Pretty good for end of July.
