just when you think you've seen it all....

went to the east started in a 100 and put the bass in the boat then decided to head out to 120. ended the day with 7 genuines, 4 nice scamps, a 23lb gag, and a handful of snapper, trigs, and red porgie. highlight of the day was when one of our guys was bringing up his jig from the last drop of the day. got it about half way up and the SLAM!!! it almost spooled him in a matter of seconds so as quickly as i could i tied a life jacket to the anchor and off we went. (by the way this is on a spinning rod with 20lb cajun line). one mile and an hour later we catch a glimpse of the mystery fish when a 10-12ft 600-800lb thresher shark comes blasting out of the water on our port bow. I could not believe my eyes much less that by some how defying all laws of physics this freakin thing had not broke the line within the first milasecond of hitting this jig. anyway we got a few more good close looks (almost to close one time) and then broke it off. I’ve seen a lot of crazy chit in my days offshore but that was a definite first. sure wish the a cajun line rep would a been there for that one. bumpy ride in but well worth the good time

Solid.

Cool, did ya get a pic?

Don’t blame me, I voted for John McCain.

I’m surprised that sucker didn’t melt the drag…

Polly Wanna…

off course its the one time i’m without my camera. tried gettn some phone pixs but it didnt come out to do it any justice

sounds like you may have had the state record for thresher shark(406) and on 20 lb line class.

we were pulling spoons for kings on 20lb spinning rods one time in the winter and had a huge one get snagged in the tail. could not figure out what the fuk we had for the first hour of the fight. (we had dreams of bluefin tuna) all we could see was the upper half of the tail coming out of the water when we could get it close enough to see. finally got it to the boat after a two hour battle of pulling this thing in backwards. even though they look bigger than they are bc of that tail this thing was easy 400+ lbs. and believe it or not was still very much alive after getting pulled backwards for two hours. my buddy wanted to keep it for a possible state record but i was already late for work so we let it go.

Sounds like a great day, congrats on the catch

Nice work!

yep, I had the 9mm in the boat but it was late and besides the fact that we would of had to drag the thing more than 30 miles, i couldnt quite justify killn something like that just for some bragn rights.

Hell, gut it and drag it through that 56 degree water and it would probably be in better shape than if you laid it on the deck with 10 bagsd of ice on top of it.

oops…

Awesome!

Luke 8:22-25

sounds like a blast! nice work in the chase!!

if you had shot this fish would it have still qualified for the record?

nice job!what kind of reel??

31’ PURSUIT
TWIN 225 YAMMYS

dont know if it would of counted if it had been shot. the spinning reel was a penn. not sure on the specific type

wouldnt have counted if shot…

Record fish must be caught using conventional rod and reel, and the fish must be hooked and played by one person only. Fish which are shot, harpooned, gigged, caught on electric reels, or in any unsportsmanlike manner shall be ineligible for record status.

Taggin and releasin em one at a time!!!

Nice report

luv that cajun…
