I swear I just saw two of these in the tidal flats behind my house. they looked exactly like this:
I would be several miles inland of Charleston harbor. Is there any other species that looks similar to this? This is the closest picture that I could find on the interwebs.
how small are they? If thats really what you think thats pretty darn cool! I am a believer of the random odd ball finds around the area. I have seen a group of baby cobia trapped in a creek at low tide and also catch snook in a handful of ponds, but i am almost certain the side liners and most of the baby poon get dropped in from bird pooo. most of these ponds are rookeries.
Baby tarpon come in on bird poop? You’ll have to pardon my gullibility lol.
I do remember a farm pond (strictly for cattle watering) that ended up with sunfish of some sort in it, and the owner claims that it must have come from migratory ducks/geese bringing them in from other bodies of water, on their feathers/feet. I have no idea lol.

I caught a 25-30 in tarpon in front of the drain at the paper mill in December and I saw a flying fish last June right in the same area. Nobody believes the flying fish deal of course

ALL GINKED UP
Maybe 2 inches. I went back to the house to find something to catch them in and when I got back, they had disappeared. It had to be baby dolphins. That was the first thought in my head when I saw them. You could see a clean dorsal all the way down the back. Only weird thing was a paddle shaped tail like in this picture. They were fairly translucent, but had a definite green and yellow tint.

I don’t think that’s too unbelievable – I had a flying fish zip past my head one day at Isle of Palms when I was in maybe stomach to chest deep water. Never seen anything like that before or since. He was heading out to deep water, so maybe he had realized just how lost he was
Might have been a cobia juvenile I have dipped them up in the harbor before. They definitely have a paddle shaped tail and this is their spawning season in our area.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.
