Haven’t done it in a while, but my local West Marine has a pretty good deal going for 2 ribbons for $5 and that got me thinking…be a nice trip to take the gf on.
I’ve got king fish rodholders on top, but no downrigger. How would you fish mix of live pogies aND a ribbon or two? I have used egg weights with rubber band ( weight pops off when fish hits) for pogies, but would something like that work for a ribbonfish?
Fritz just texted me and said I’m in the wrong forum…Didn’t realize there is a dedicated kingfishing section here.
get you some mylar duster rigs from wally world- hook up a haden, set the drag light and slow troll the reefs- guaranteed hook ups with kings, cudas and AJ’s
Going to definitely run live bait as long as I can get some, but figured the ribbons were a pretty good deal. The GF has a mental limit of the Chas 60. I plan to sneak out a bit farther than that if we go

I think you’ll be ok here; to post in the kingfishing forum it requires you to be wearing at least two different types of gold jewelry. Carry on.

I'm sorry...wut? This was from the last king tournament I fished in...camo shirt was in the console

LOL, you know what’s beautiful about that picture? It looks like it could have been taken in 1975!

It seems like that long ago!
Took the family to the S end of Morris Isl near the lighthouse for a beach day on Sat and saw a ribbonfish jumping in a little eddy in the creek near the inlet. Never seen that before.
Another ribbonfish story: There’s an ocean pier near Myrtle Bch where the Asian folks fish at night specifically for ribbonfish using a funky set up with light sticks, long rods, bells, etc. Had never seen that before but they were having some good success.

Make a double rig with a live Pogie in front of ribbon fish, Pogie thinks ribbon is after him will make everything look lively. Rubber and and weight will work fine.

I’m a big fan of the smorgasbord option when fishing!
I’ve heard ribbons can be caught under the Ravenel.

This is called a zombie rig. It works wonders.

There are millions of ribbonfish in Myrtle Beach, You can fill a cooler full of king bait on a gotcha plug jigging up and down.
Any pier here holds them
