My initial impression of this reel was that it was very light, extremely light, I was a little skeptical at first because my experiences with fishing gear is that lighter doesn’t always mean better and with lightness you usually sacrifice durablity. After doing a little more research on the reel I broke the reel apart and put it up next to a Penn conflict reel the was broken down for cleaning and to my amazement everything was basically the same, except the mela has more bearings and the spool is drilled out more wich is what causes it to be so light. I spooled it up with some #12 braid and took it out. The reel is very smooth and cast pretty well, the bail trip was smooth. The drag was a little Catchy at first but after I caught the first red on it, it got buttery smooth. It has shielded stainless steel ball bearings and a carbon fiber drag system and it retails for less than $50 I believe. If you are interstellar in them you can get them on amazon or at www.eposeidon.com, these are the only places I know of to get them. If you have any questions about the reel, feel free to ask.
